"Remember, if you really want to motivate yourself, love is more powerful than fear." - Kristen Neff
Self-compassion provides emotional strength and resilience, allowing us to admit our shortcomings, motivate ourselves with kindness, forgive ourselves when needed, relate wholeheartedly to others, and be more authentically ourselves.
The Mindful Self-Compassion program is an empirically-supported, 8-week training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion.
Based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.

"Being human is not about being any one particular way; it is about being as life creates you—with your own particular strengths and weaknesses, gifts and challenges, quirks and oddities." — Kristin Neff
After participating in the MSC · 8 week program, you’ll be able to:
What To Expect:
The goal of the MSC 8 week program is for participants to directly experience self-compassion and learn practices that evoke self-compassion in daily life. Program activities include:
MSC is also not psychotherapy, as the emphasis of MSC is on building emotional resources rather than addressing old wounds. However, beneficial change occurs naturally as we develop the capacity to be with ourselves in a kinder, more compassionate way.
Compassion is a positive, energising emotion; nevertheless while learning self-compassion some difficult emotions may arise. MSC teachers are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for this process to unfold, and to making the journey enjoyable for everyone, but participants need to also plan how they will manage this if it arises and what additional support they will access (e.g.counsellor, friend) and so on.
MSC includes 8 weekly sessions of 2.5 hours each, in addition to a 4-hour retreat. Prior to registering, participants should plan to attend every session and to practice mindfulness and self-compassion for at least 30 minutes per day throughout the program.
Places are limited. Contact Claire via the Contact Form below.
Your MSC teacher · Claire Raworth
Claire Raworth is a social worker, counsellor and trained MSC teacher with over 30 years of experience. She lives in Melbourne, Australia.
She is passionate about self compassion and its ability to make a powerful difference in many aspects of our lives, and loves to see the transformation this work renders in others.
Prerequisites:
Everyone is welcome, including people of all backgrounds and identities. No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MSC. However, participants will be asked to provide some personal information when they register for this course to help teachers determine their safety and readiness for this kind of emotional work.
The following book is recommended as a companion to the MSC course:
The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook, by Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer (2018)
NDIS:
Did you realise that you may be able to claim the cost of this course through NDIS depending on the funding within your NDIS plan?
Claire is an approved provider if your NDIS plan is self managed or plan managed. Please discuss with with your Support Co-ordinator (if you have one) to ensure it meets the criteria.
Please discuss this with Claire prior to booking as well as there may be some conditions that I need to meet.
Medicare:
If you have a MHTP then you can apply for a $37 per session rebate from Medicare; a total of $333.00 if you attend all 9 sessions.
However you must still pay the total amount in advance and Claire will issue you with a receipt after each session that you attend.
Be aware that Medicare rules stipulate that if you do not attend a session then you cannot claim the rebate for that session.
There are also criteria regarding the number of people who are participating in the group, so it is not definite whether you will be able to claim a rebate until closer to the time of the group. I apologise for this, but it is just the way that the Medicare rules impact.
You will need to inform Claire in advance of your intention to claim the Medicare rebate.
Note that unfortunately at the moment this only applies to face to face courses, not online, unless you live in a rural area.
If you have further questions about Medicare you can also contact Claire below and discuss it further prior to booking.
